Jungheinrich opens new integrated facility in India
According to market research, the Indian market for material handling equipment is currently around 20,000 units per year and is expected to grow at a double-digit CAGR in the foreseeable future. Jungheinrich is looking to modernize warehouse operations in India and increase its capacity to meet the growing demand for forklift trucks and other warehouse equipment. The company plans to position itself as an "automation solution provider" by introducing new machines, such as Automotive Guided Vehicles (AGV), in the Indian market.
The Indian logistics sector is dominated by old-technology warehouse equipment and diesel-spewing forklifts. Jungheinrich aims to change this by introducing automated solutions and all-electric forklift trucks and equipment. This move towards a more energy-efficient and time-saving mode of working is crucial for India to achieve its ambitious modernization and industrialization goals.
"We are inspired by the thrust that the present government is giving to the logistics sector. We are expanding our present capacity and have a long-term focus to increase our overall footprint," says Manojit Acharya, India Head of Jungheinrich. In addition to expanding its capacity, the company is planning to introduce a new line of products for the Indian market and increase its market share substantially. All products introduced by Jungheinrich in India come from state-of-the-art factories in Europe and China.
The city of Bhiwandi in Maharashtra will continue to be the base as Jungheinrich expands its presence in India. The city's hub in logistic warehousing, strong customer base, and nearby seaport make it the perfect location for the company's operations. Jungheinrich's focus on ecological, social, and economic responsibility is evident in all its business activities. The company brings only electric-based equipment with a lower carbon footprint to India, and almost all trucks are available with lithium-ion technology. In addition, the company plans to set up solar panels in the next year to ensure the warehouse operates on a renewable energy model.
For every piece of equipment sold, the company plants a tree to help the environment. It also recycles all its old equipment, refurbishing it from its successful rental market and reselling it. This is a huge step towards reducing the company's carbon footprint and saving resources that would have otherwise ended up as waste.
